The Weekly Cavan Voice, 40th Electronic Edition

This special 40th edition of the Cavan Voice is to ask for your support at our Convention next Tuesday night, 8th September, in the Hotel Kilmore.

I greatly appreciate your support and certainly do not take it for granted. I want to set out in this special edition, some of the reasons why I believe I can go on representing you effectively.

Since my election to the Dáil I have tried to provide a good service to you, the members. I have done this by writing and emailing to you regularly, providing up to date information. I have provided a monthly round of Clinics throughout the County and kept you informed of them. I have made myself available to meet people in our office in Cavan as often as possible and, in my own home as often as was required. I am delighted that with the help of my outstanding staff I have been able to provide you, the Membership, with a first class service in our offices in Cavan and Dublin. Accompanied and ably assisted by Mr. Michael Smith and Mr. Peter O’Reilly, I have attended good participative Annual General Meetings in our branches, giving most winter and autumn nights to this.

Over the Dáil term I have tried to modernise our Party’s approach to canvassing and political activity. With your outstanding co-operation we have put out regular editions of the Cavan Voice Newsletter throughout the County. During the Dáil term I have canvassed regularly in our urban centres to maintain a strong connection with our voters. I want to especially thank those who assisted me in that. Of course, I have done all the traditional things that TD’s do, such as attending family events, local festivals, official functions and relevant public meetings. I have maintained a very strong social media presence, and a strong presence in all local media.

The economic recovery is gaining momentum and the Government has a plan to spread its benefits to everyone in Cavan and Monaghan- O’Reilly TD

Speaking after Minister Noonan’s Spring Economic Statement speech in the Dáil yesterday, Fine Gael TD for Cavan and Monaghan has said that “The economic recovery is gaining momentum and the Government has a plan to spread its benefits to everyone in Cavan and Monaghan.”

“Fianna Fáil’s economic legacy and disastrous policies caused years of hardship for many people in this Country and in Cavan and Monaghan. Yesterday’s Spring Statement was a commitment from this Government that it is now time for better living standards and improved public services for the people. Almost every family in Cavan and Monaghan is directly or indirectly affected by emigration, the message that the Government was sending out yesterday is that it is time to give our young emigrants the opportunity to come home. The Government has a plan to create and cultivate the conditions to achieve this vision and the Spring Economic Statement shows that the plan is already working.”

“Since coming into Government in 2011, we have seen a drastic reduction of our national deficit, from €15 billion to €4.5 billion, and a move towards the European average. This was achieved with less tax increases, fewer expenditure cuts and the maintenance of the core social welfare rates, protecting the most vulnerable while getting the economy back on track.”

“We built more schools in the midst of the economic recovery than were built under Fianna Fáil and the Greens in the boom years. In Cavan, we have seen the approval of two new national schools for Mullagh and Virginia and the necessary funding for the long overdue Secondary School in Kingscourt. Two key education projects for the Cavan, which I am keen to see completed, are the Holy Family School in Cootehill and the new Third Level Education Campus for Cavan Institute and I remain committed to assisting their progress”.
